"When will we be ready to travel?"
"We are making good progress. The group seems very focused and relaxed. The next step will be to practice group visualization."
"Robert had a bad night, with lots of disturbing dreams. Mostly dreams about water, in which he missed a bus, and a train left without him, and he ended up cold and wet."
"His unconscious is balancing out the meditation sessions with its own symbolic chaos. Perhaps he has anxiety about whether we will get our timing right."
"Will we?"
"I'm sure that Marvin won't let us down."
"Marvin is smart, but is he that smart?"
"Where would you most like to go?"
"Down the rabbit hole with Alice."
"Then we need to find a rabbit with a watch."
"Or imagine one?"
Sarayu was making some tea and tweeting something for #TemporalTues.
"Today is time travel Tuesday. There is a temporal anthropologist called Dr Wendell Howe on Twitter. He's a Victorian scholar from 2610."
Alphonse got up and looked at Sarayu's iPhone. He pulled out the three tarot cards from the last reading.
"We should go tonight."
"What?"
"There is a lot of time travel energy out there, Robert has been dreaming of water, Death is the Scorpio trump. The page has a message that links time with the infinite. The order of the reading is in reverse from right to left. Strength has the lemniscate above her head."
"You really think we should go tonight?"
"We should sit in the circle and visualize the rabbit hole. Marvin can generate us some Victorian clothes. Robert will look cool dressed up as Sherlock Holmes."
"Sarayu, we can wear some lovely Victorian bonnets! Let's do it."
So the four intrepid adventurers sat in a circle, dressed up in Victorian clothes, and visualized a rabbit hole near Oxford in England, around 1865.
For a while not much happened. Then Alphonse suggested they should focus on a rabbit with a waistcoat and a watch. That did the trick. All went dark around them. The circle started to spin slowly. They held hands and there before them in the center was a rabbit, a white rabbit pulling a watch out of its waistcoat pocket. The rabbit vanished and they started to fall, and fall, and fall. A few minutes later they landed softly next to a jar of orange marmalade, then they fell further. There was a table with a bottle on it saying "Drink me!" They were shrinking. Each one of them measured about ten inches. Under the table was a piece of oatcake with a label that said "Eat me!"
"'Curiouser and curiouser!" said Alphonse.
"That's a piece of my oatcake." said Sarayu.
"It tastes lovely." said Trylyan.
Robert was feeling dizzy. The White Rabbit returned, wearing a fine pair of white gloves. They saw the glimpse of a beautiful garden, then all went dark, the circle spun slowly again, and in a few moments they were back in the barge kitchen. Except that the kitchen was very large and they were very small.
"Focus on the Fool." said Alphonse. "He is a giant."
They focused on the Fool trump and slowly returned to their normal size.
That was quite a trip.
They had finished their first journey. It was brief but they made it back.
"This shit works!" said Trylyan.
"Let's have some tea."
"A mad hatter's tea party for time travel Tuesday."
